THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G.’S READY TO DIE 25TH ANNIVERSARY BOX SET REISSUE
The Notorious B.I.G. reinvented East Coast hip-hop 25 years ago, revitalizing the genre with his incredible 1994 debut album, Ready To Die. Fast forward a quarter of a century, and the six times certified platinum it is regarded as not only one of the best hip-hop albums ever made, but one of the greatest albums of all time.
Ready To Die turns 25 on September 13, and to mark the occasion, Rhino Entertainment is honouring this groundbreaking album with a limited-edition, anniversary box set. Units are individually numbered and limited to 3,500 copies, so you’d better get in fast! Pre-order your copy here.
The set is presented in a cigar-style box with metallic and gloss accents and includes a booklet filled with liner notes by veteran hip hop journalist and author Kathy Iandoli, never-before-seen photos from the era, as well as exclusive stories by Easy Mo Bee and Chucky Thompson, who helped produce the album. The album’s tracklist is spread across nine 7″ singles on red, white, and black vinyl, with classic bonus tracks “Who Shot Ya?” and “Just Playing (Dreams)” getting their own dedicated disc.
Mainly an autobiographical album, Ready to Die showcases Biggie’s immaculate storytelling on the 17 tracks that explore his life and experiences as a drug dealer. The album takes listeners on a journey spanning from the artist’s birth to his time on the streets, ultimately ending with his untimely death. Sadly, this would be the only studio album released during Biggie’s lifetime. He was killed on 9 March 1997, just 16 days before the release of his second album with its foretelling title, Life After Death.
