One listen to the first two singles from Hayley Williams' upcoming solo album, Petals For Armor is all it takes to understand the deeply personal substance at the heart of the new project. The video for debut single “Simmer” runs like its very own mini-horror movie that sees the singer running through the woods; seemingly from her own past, singing about rage and control.

Williams followed up “Simmer” with another steady and personal track cut called “Leave It Alone.” The clip features masterful special effects that turn William’s into an alien-eque insect inside a cottony cocoon. Both clips were directed by Warren Fu, suggesting we can look forward to more cinematic, reality-bending music videos in the singles to come!
Hayley Williams | “Leave It Alone”
In a new interview and very candid interview with Zane Lowe, Hayley Williams opened up about her ongoing struggle with depression, which ultimately inspired her to take a very personal turn with her songwriting and channel her experiences into a solo album.
Williams teared up while discussing having suicidal thoughts during the making of Paramore’s 2017 album After Laughter. “My dog is the reason I’m alive because he would’ve been waiting on me to get home, no matter what,” she admitted. “You know how little sweet little puppies sit and they wait? I couldn’t think about it…whoa, I’ve never cried in an interview before.”

“Because life is still hard,” she admitted. “It didn’t become a breeze overnight or anything and it’s been years and it’s still not a breeze, but it’s so rich and now that I’m taking account of all these feelings and I’m feeling all of them, there’s this beautiful rainbow versus just the deep end.”
Williams’ debut solo album, Petals for Armor, drops May 8. “Making it was a scary, empowering experience. Some of my proudest moments as a lyricist happened while writing Petals for Armor,” Williams said in a statement. “Now that it’s time to put it all out there, I can finally exhale. I’m excited to let people in to experience a different side of myself that I’ve only very recently become familiar with.” Well at least one of us is still breathing!"
